Manchester United Crowned Premier League Champions As Chelsea Failed To Win At The Emirates Stadium

The title race is over.....

Manchester United are crowned Premiership Champions as Chelsea failed to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday (Singapore time).

Chelsea needed a victory against Arsenal in order to keep their faint hopes of retaining the Premiership title for the 3rd successive season, but failed to do so as the Gunners defended strongly in spite of the Blues dominance for most of the match.

Chelsea conceded a penalty in the 42nd minute when Khalid Boulahrouz brought down Arsenal's Baptista in the penalty area and was sent off for the offence. Gilberto converted the resulting penalty beyond Petr Cech to put the Gunners in front.

The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Gunners.

The second half started with Chelsea attacking the Arsenal goal for most of the time despite being a man short. The Blues got a deserving equaliser when Michael Essien's glancing header found the net.

With the score at 1-1, Chelsea took the game to Arsenal as they have to win the match in order to keep their faint title hopes alive against Manchester United. Chelsea then launched waves of attack after attack on the Gunners goal, but were unable to score the decisive goal which they wanted very badly.

With the score still tied at 1-1 after the match, Jose Mourinho's team conceded the Premiership title to Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United team with 2 games to spare.

With the Premiership title a foregone conclusion, both Chelsea and Manchester United still have another honour in the form of the FA Cup to fight for later during this month.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate my beloved Manchester United team for reclaiming the title back from Chelsea after a hard fought season of football. Go Red Devils go!!!

PS: Credit to the Chelsea team too, for their determination, resilience and effort in what appears to be one of the most exciting race for the Premiership title ever. You too are also deserving champions!

Arsenal 1 (Gilberto penalty)
Chelsea 1 (Essien)

Red Card: Khalid Boulahrouz (Chelsea, 42nd min)

Chelsea's Michael Essien feels the pain in the early stages after Gilberto Silva's crunching tackle catches him

John Obi Mikel attempts to tackle Emmanuel Adebayor as both sides fail to create good chances in a scrappy opening period

Knowing that only a win will do, Frank Lampard looks to find a way through for the title-chasing Blues

As the half draws to a close, Khalid Boulahrouz brings down Julio Baptista to concede a penalty and earn a red card

Gilberto successfully converts the spot-kick to give the Gunners the lead and leave Chelsea with an uphill task

Adebayor almost scores the second after the break but he flashes his shot just wide with Petr Cech well beaten

With 20 minutes remaining, the visitors find themselves level when Essien heads home Shaun Wright-Phillips's cross

Minutes later Joe Cole's superb shot finds the net again only for the assistant referee to raise his flag for offside

Despite their best efforts, Chelsea have to settle for the draw that ends their hopes of the title

At Old Trafford, Man Utd fans begin their celebrations as the Premiership crown becomes theirs for the first time since 2003
