Giggs Aiming For Coaching Future

Ryan Giggs may still be going strong on the football field but the 34-year-old seems set to extend his football career by coaching once he hangs up his boots.

The former Wales captain played his 100th Champions League tie for Manchester United on Wednesday night.

But this summer he will start studying for his Uefa 'A' Coaching Licence, says FAW technical director Osian Roberts.

"Ryan has indicated he wants to come and do his Uefa 'A' Licence with us in Aberystwyth in June," Roberts said.

"It's great news for us in Wales and I think it's also great news for football that someone of his calibre and status will stay in the game.

"With all his experience and expertise he's going to be a great and valued member to football in the future."

Old Trafford has been a good breeding ground for managers, with the likes of Gordon Strachan, Steve Bruce, Paul Ince and Giggs' compatriot Mark Hughes all graduating from playing.

Giggs would still have to go on and gain one of Uefa's Pro Licences after taking the 'A' Licence if he wanted to manage at the top level.

But the indications are that the Welshman's vast experience will be ploughed back into the game for new generations of footballers.
