Edwin: I Couldn't Refuse

Edwin van der Sar admits he hardly had to think twice before deciding to extend his United contract by a further year.

The veteran Dutchman is set to have the last hurrah of an epic playing career at Old Trafford, having agreed a new deal to keep him on the Reds' roster until June 2010.

"It was not difficult at all," van der Sar told MUTV. "It’s a great club to be at, with a great atmosphere in the dressing room, the boss is fantastic and we have the best stadium in England.

"I’ve enjoyed every minute of the three-and-a-half years I’ve been here so far and I’m really looking forward to playing for another season after this one."

Van der Sar and his United colleagues have now switched their sights to world domination, and the Dutchman is keen to bring the Club World Cup trophy back to Manchester before Christmas.

"I won it with Ajax but that was just one game and now you play a semi-final as well, so it’s going to be different," he said. "We’re there a little longer than normal, so we’ll do our best and hopefully bring another trophy home."
