"Godfather" Vidic?

Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic has welcomed the arrival of countrymen Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic to Old Trafford.

Although 17-year-old Ljajic will remain at Partizan Belgrade until 2010, Tosic, 21, has signed with immediate effect and been handed the no.14 shirt.

“It’s great for Serbia and it’s great for me to have people from the same country around me,” Vidic told ManUtd.com.

“I hope they have a good time here and a big career at United.

“I’m here to help him [Tosic]. I think he’s going to show his quality and personality at this football club.”

Sir Alex told the press on Friday that Vidic recently took Tosic and Ljajic out to dinner in Manchester and joked the 27-year-old had played the role of “godfather” to the youngsters.

Nemanja will certainly have plenty of advice he can pass onto the duo.

“It’s like they are in a dream at the moment,” he said. “I can see they are very happy. It’s going to be a good time for them.”

Vidic signed for United in January 2006 and took time to settle at Old Trafford. He says it's important to remember Tosic may need a similar bedding-in period.

“I think all players need time to get used to the English game,” he said. “It’s different and I found it a bit difficult at the beginning.

“[But] I don’t think I have to convince anyone to join Manchester United, the best team in the world last year. Everyone wants to be part of this squad.“
