Euro Double Pleases Boss

Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see United record back-to-back Champions League wins following the victory over Wolfsburg, sending the Reds three points clear at the top of Group B.

Having beaten Besiktas 1-0 in the first game, the Reds came from behind to beat Armin Veh's side thanks to goals from Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick. Sir Alex felt his side were deserved victors, but acknowledged the German champions' gutsy display after they took the lead through Edin Dzeko.

"We knew they were a good side and it was a test in the sense that they're front players are very difficult to play against, especially Dzeko," he told MUTV. "He's a big lad and a real handful, and despite being up against two very good centre-backs he continually gave us problems.

"I was pleased with our performance and some of our football was fantastic. We played very well, the penetration was terrific and we could have scored a lot of goals. We're delighted with the two wins. Getting points on the board early on is always a bonus and I think it helps take the pressure off a bit for the trip to Moscow [in October to play CSKA Moscow]."

Once again, Ryan Giggs played a crucial role, with his 150th United goal arriving before setting up Carrick's winner. "He's unbelievable," declared the boss. "With all the superlatives and praise he's had over the years, I don't know how you can add to it. He keeps defying his age. He looked like a young kid, you could see how much he enjoyed it. He's fit and looks absolutely fantastic."
