Vidic Sings Smalling's Praises
Chris Smalling's impressive start to life at United continues to catch the eye, not least of one of the world's finest defenders.
Nemanja Vidic flanked the England under-21 international in the Reds' comfortable victory over Bursaspor - Smalling's third game in the Champions League, and his third clean sheet - and the Serbian international was again left impressed by the youngster.
"Chris did very well tonight, but he’s not only been good today he’s done well over the last few games," Vidic told ManUtd.com. "He’s proved the boss was right to give him his chance tonight.
"Rio has obviously had trouble with injuries over the last year and we also have important games to come so it was a good chance for Chris. He has good players around him to learn from and he has the ability, physique and intelligence to do well."
At the other end of the field, 21-year-old Gabriel Obertan and 20-year-old Bebe both bagged late goals to clinch an important victory, and Vidic was delighted to see the Reds' youngsters on song.
"Gabby scored a good goal and he showed the ability he has and the pace and energy he has," said the United skipper. "It was an important night for him and it will give him a lot of confidence. I think it was a great performance from him tonight.
"Bebe as well came on and scored a good goal. We know he has goals in him, he’s target man and has great potential. It’s a good night for the young players and it will give them confidence to work even harder and fight for a place in the team."
