Vidic: So Far,So Good
Nemanja Vidic says the Reds came away from Stamford Bridge with exactly what they wanted following the 1-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea.
Wayne Rooney's first half strike was the difference in the quarter-final first leg and puts United in pole position to progress to semi-finals to face either Internazionale or Schalke.
Vidic was delighted with the team's overall display at Chelsea but insists the job is only half done.
"Everyone is very happy. We've got a great result, scored the away goal and kept a clean sheet. That's what we wanted before the game," he told MUTV.
"We weren't afraid to come here and play with two forwards; we did that last time [in the league] and played some good football. I said before the game that sometimes you don't mind not playing well and winning, but I think we played well tonight and in the end we got the result.
"The job is not done yet," he added. "We must focus on the next game against Fulham and then the Chelsea match. It will be a difficult game, but with our crowd behind us I believe we can go through."
Vidic also hailed the return of his defensive partner Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the United backline for the first time since the start of February.
Rio had a great game," declared the skipper. "It's very important in these matches to have experience in the team and we definitely had it tonight.
"The fact we kept a clean sheet showed we did some good things defensively. It's a great night for us."
