Vidic Targets Ewood Party

Nemanja Vidic has called on United to wrap up the Barclays Premier League title at Blackburn on Saturday.

The Serbian centre-back does not want the race to go down to the final day, when United entertain relegation-haunted Blackpool, after the victory against Chelsea took the Reds to the brink of a record 19th league success.

When United were held to a goalless draw at Ewood Park last season, it dealt a costly blow to the Reds' bid for a fourth successive title. This Saturday's visit offers the perfect chance for redemption; ironically the same result would this time be enough to clinch the championship.

"Mathematically it's not [certain] but I think it's a big advantage - six points clear with two games left," Vidic told MUTV.

"Obviously, we have to focus on the next game against Blackburn already to win the title. We don't want to come to the last game and to be nervous. We have a big advantage and we are nearly there.

"It's important, first of all, to win the title. As well, to be captain of Manchester United is a big honour but, to lift the trophy, is even bigger.

"I'm just hoping we'll play properly next game and we can celebrate at Blackburn."

The no-nonsense defender applauded Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to make so many changes for the Champions League semi-final victory Schalke at Old Trafford, which clearly reaped dividends.

"I think, sometimes, especially at the end of the season, it's mental tiredness and not so much maybe physical," he added.

"The manager felt the team needed a bit of rest and we saw we had great energy, ran a lot and didn't give up in the whole game.

"I think it was a great decision by the manager, hopefully when you're winning games, the decisions are good but we are lucky this time that the decision was right."
