Young: I Can Succeed Here

Ashley Young has often proved the doubters wrong during his career and he’s confident he’ll do the same again at Old Trafford.

The summer signing from Aston Villa is aware that some have questioned whether he is good enough to play at the top level, but says he’s always believed in his ability.

Judging by his encouraging displays on tour in the USA, the winger has quickly settled at the club and he seems set to push for a starting berth come the first game of the season.

“I’ve always had confidence in myself and believed that I could play at the highest level,” he said in an exclusive interview with Inside United, out on Wednesday.

“Some people said I couldn’t, but they also said I couldn’t play for England. That doesn’t bother me, though – I’ve got confidence in myself to know that I can do it.”

The 26-year-old didn’t have to think twice when he first found out about United’s interest in signing him in January.

He explained: “At the time we were in a bit of a sticky situation at Villa and in a battle to stay up, so the clubs said they’d talk again in the summer and see where things were at.

“There were other clubs interested but as soon as I heard about the interest from United I just wanted to get here and sign. I knew it was the right club.”
