Sir Alex's Gregg Support

Sir Alex has pledged to send a strong squad to Belfast to take part in Harry Gregg's Testimonial on Tuesday 15 May.

The Reds will face an Irish League Select XI managed by Martin O'Neill and David Jeffrey at Windsor Park two days after the final match of the season at Sunderland. Although some of the United stars will be taking part in international tournaments over the summer, the manager suggested he would first ask them to pay tribute to the 79-year-old.

"He's a special man, no question about that," said the boss on U105.8FM. "Apart from his time at Manchester United, I think that anyone who knows Harry realises they're speaking to a really genuine man so I'm really delighted to be bringing the team over.

"United signed him from Doncaster for about £23,000. When you think of the prices of the players today, it was a bargain obviously.

"He was a courageous and brave goalkeeper. He had a great career and I remember him playing for Northern Ireland in the World Cup in 1958. I always remember that because I think he played with a broken rib in the last couple of games. He had great quality and courage, that all goalkeepers have to have.

"We'll bring out strongest team over. I mean for Manchester United to honour a player who, apart from his experience of the Munich air disaster, you've got to remember the career he had here. So it's absolutely apt that we send our best squad of players."
