Reds Proud To Honour Gregg

Jonny Evans says he and his Manchester United team-mates are honoured to be travelling to Belfast next week for Harry Gregg's testimonial.

The Reds will take on an Irish League Select XI at Windsor Park on Tuesday 15 May in recognition of the former Manchester United goalkeeper, who played a hero's role in the tragic Munich Air Crash in 1958.

"Harry was instrumental in saving a lot of lives," Jonny said. "As somebody from Northern Ireland, it makes me very proud. You hear the stories when you grow up and it's something that sticks in your memory."

Sir Alex has promised he'll send a strong squad to Ireland, a country where United enjoys huge levels of support and has done for several decades. Indeed, as Evans attested, there were only two choices as a youngster when it came to choosing your English club.

"It was either Manchester United or Liverpool," he revealed. "I had mates at school and we used to fight over it. There are some real die-hard fans for both sides.

"United is huge in Ireland. When you walk around Old Trafford every other accent is Irish. They will really enjoy us going over there.

"If I was younger, growing up in Belfast, the opportunity to see Manchester United would have been unbelievable. Hopefully it's going to be a good occasion. We just hope to put on a good show for everyone."

Evans' participation in the match is currently in doubt given the young defender has missed United's last two league games through injury.
