In Summary: 9 to 17 July
Manchester United news in summary from 9 to 17 July:
9 July: Park completes QPR transfer
Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of midfielder Park Ji-sung from Manchester United.
The agreement, which could potentially be worth £5m, will cost QPR an initial transfer fee of £2m for the 31-year-old, who has signed a two-year deal.
The South Korea international has made 133 Premier League appearances for United since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven in 2005, scoring 19 goals.
13 July: Gary Neville warns Man. City over title
Gary Neville has told Manchester City not to expect to dominate the Premier League after last season's title win.
City pipped city rivals United on goal difference to win the league for the first time in 44 years.
"Very rarely does a team run away with it," the ex-Manchester United defender Neville told BBC Sport.
"It's a tough league to win and the idea that a team will go and dominate, it's too early to start speculating about that."
He added: "Manchester United have done it through the '90s and last 10 years, Liverpool did it in the 1970s and 1980s. It's very difficult to dominate over 15 to 20 years.
"We will see what happens next year."
15 July: Giggs has coaching ambitions
Former Wales captain Ryan Giggs says he has ambitions to become a coach once his playing career is over.
The Manchester United winger will captain the Great Britain Olympic team at London 2012.
"Coaching is something I'm looking at more and more," Giggs said.
"In the middle of last season, I completed my Uefa A Licence, which was good. It's a different side of things, completely different to being a player."
Giggs added: "I want to gather as much knowledge as I can and prepare myself as best as I can, if I do want to go into management or coaching.
16 July: Berbatov says it is better he leaves Manchester United
Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov says it is "better for everyone" that he leaves the club.
Berbatov, 31, made just 21 appearances last season, and has fallen out of favour with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
And now the Bulgarian, who cost United £30.75m in 2008, says he would leave to go in search of regular football.
"I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone if I am not playing," Berbatov wrote on his official website.
Berbatov scored 14 goals in his first season at United after arriving from Tottenham, and featured in the club's Champions League final defeat by Barcelona.
He found the target 12 times in his second season before finishing the following campaign as top goalscorer with 22, including hat-tricks against Liverpool and Birmingham and five in the 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn.
But last season he found himself behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the fight for a starting place, and Ferguson admitted he would not be able to guarantee the Bulgarian regular first-team football.
"At 31, he is looking at first-team football," said Ferguson in March. "It is difficult for me to guarantee that so it could lead to him looking elsewhere."
16 July: Powell will be used in Manchester United midfield
New signing Nick Powell has been lined up for a switch to a central midfield role at Manchester United following his move from Crewe Alexandra.
The 18-year-old operated as a forward last season and finished the campaign with 16 goals for the Alex.
But Sir Alex Ferguson plans to utilise Powell, who scored in Crewe's League Two play-off final win against Cheltenham, in a deeper role.
"We see him as a central midfield player," said the United boss.
17 July: Manchester United 'is world's most valuable sport club'
Manchester United is the most valuable club in sport, according to Forbes magazine, which values the Premier League club at $2.23bn (£1.43bn).
United is rated top thanks to lucrative global sponsorship deals, including with Aon, Turkish Airlines, and DHL.
17 July: Premier League is top priority
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says recapturing the Premier League is the "number one priority".
The 70-year-old challenged his side after being pipped by Manchester City on goal difference last term.
He said: "We have to recover, as we've done many times. That's our target this year. Priority number one is to win the title back."
Ferguson has signed midfielders Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra and Japanese international Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund.
He added: "After the disappointment of last year, we want to recover the title.
"We either win the title or come second, it's an important part of the history of our club over the last 20 years."
17 July: Man Utd face Aberdeen in benefit for Neil Simpson
Manchester United will be Aberdeen's opposition in a benefit match for former Dons midfielder Neil Simpson on 14 August at Pittodrie Stadium.
Simpson played under United manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he led the Dons to the European Cup-winners' Cup in 1983.
Organising committee chairman Bob Bain said: "Sir Alex was delighted to help out his former player."
Bain expects Ferguson to bring a strong team to Aberdeen for the match for his former midfielder.
"Even though the game is just a few days before the start of the EPL season, he has given assurances he will bring as strong a squad as possible," said the organiser.
