Evans Battling To Be Fit

Jonny Evans faces a race against time to be fit for Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash at Newcastle after failing to shake off a dead leg against CFR Cluj.

The centre-back was hurt in the closing stages of the defeat to Tottenham but kept his place in the line-up for the trip to Romania, partnering Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the defence.

Unfortunately, Evans was troubled again by the problem during the course of the 2-1 victory in the Champions League, and replaced by Scott Wootton, but Sir Alex has stressed the stopper has time to recover before the journey to the North East this weekend.

"Jonny got injured on Saturday," stated the manager. "He had a recurrence of that. It is a dead leg.

"He has five days to recover for Sunday. Hopefully he will be okay."
