Sir Alex Wins Monthly Award

Sir Alex Ferguson has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for October.

The Manchester United manager guided his team to three wins from three Barclays Premier League games, a run that included 10 goals scored, two victories away from home and a first sucess at Stamford Bridge for more than a decade.

At the conclusion of the month, the Reds had moved to within a point of league-leaders Chelsea - a position since improved by opening November with Saturday's victory over Arsenal.

Sir Alex is no stranger to the Manager of the Month award, of course. This is the 27th time he's had the honour bestowed upon him.

"We've got a great set up here," Sir Alex said. "I've got great staff and the players, of course. They are the reason I'm getting this award. There is no question about that. I am very pleased."

The boss's next assignment comes in European competition, as the Reds travel to Portugal to take on SC Braga on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
