Vidic Happy At Man. United

Nemanja Vidic says he is happy with life at Manchester United - but has refused to rule out a future switch to Italy.

The central defender, 31, admits Serie A side Fiorentina were interested in signing him from Spartak Moscow before he agreed the Old Trafford deal.

The Serbian opted to move to England in a £7m transfer in 2006 and admits joining United was an opportunity which he could not refuse.

It has been a huge success for both parties, with Vidic helping the club win a host of trophies including four Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.

However, he hinted that he may fancy one final challenge in Serie A before hanging up his boots.

"Before signing with United there was an interest from Fiorentina, a big club in which other Serbian players have played well in recent years" he told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

"But I had the opportunity to sign for United and I think that many people would have made a choice like mine.

"A future in Italy? You cannot say what there is in the future.

"I am happy at United - everything here is great. I have won a lot and I don't have one reason to think about changing teams. In the future you never know."

Vidic hailed the significance of last weekend's crucial Premier League win at neighbours Manchester City which put United six points clear at the top of the table.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men lost both top-flight games against their cross-city rivals last season and the defeats proved costly as City swiped the title from United on goal difference.

"Currently we are in an excellent table position but we have to work a lot and still win as many points," added Vidic, who is set to make his comeback from a knee injury against Sunderland on Saturday.

"It was crucial to win against City after last year."

The United star has also urged City's Italian international Mario Balotelli to make the most of his ability.

"I think he has qualities and a great potential, but now he has to show it. He is young and young people can make mistakes.

"He has talent and he can become a top player, but it depends on him."
