Evra: Japan Holds Fond Memories
Patrice Evra has special memories of Yokohama, one of the cities Manchester United will visit during Tour 2013 presented by Aon.
Four tour matches have been confirmed so far - one apiece in Hong Kong and Australia plus two in Japan, the country in which the Reds won the Club World Cup in 2008.
Yokohama F·Marinos will host United on Friday 26 July and Evra says the trip will bring back great memories.
“It was special [to win the trophy],” the Frenchman told ManUtd.com. “It wasn't easy after Vida got sent off in the final, and we only won 1-0, but the reception of the fans and the atmosphere – the fans were desperate to see United win that competition. And when we lifted that trophy, to be the world champion club, that was just amazing.”
Having experienced the hero’s welcome afforded to his good friend Ji-sung Park during past visits to Asia, Evra says he is looking forward to seeing the reception given to Shinji Kagawa in his homeland.
“I remember we played a friendly against Japan for France and the Japanese fans went crazy whenever Shinji touched the ball,” he recalls. “It'll be the same as when Ji was in Korea – I always used to joke with him that there is God, then the King of Korea, and then Ji-sung Park! I think Shinji will be the same.”
