Reds Spreading The Goals

Manchester United have spread the goals around the side this term in the Barclays Premier League, with a record 18 different goalscorers at the club.

Sir Alex's men remain in pole position in the title race and it has very much been a team effort in terms of hitting the net. Michael Carrick's strike at Stoke City ensured a new record in terms of the number of different marksmen for the club since the inception of the new league in 1992/93 (impressively, United's 18 this season is double the tally registered in 2002/2003).

The new mark beats the 17 different league scorers in the 2006/2007 and 2009/2010 campaigns.

United's defenders have weighed in with 12 goals this term, with Patrice Evra leading the way with four. Jonny Evans and Rafael have also made valuable contributions. Counting Shinji Kagawa as an attacking midfielder, rather than a striker, results in the midfield posting 15 goals from nine different players.

Meanwhile, the strikers have bagged a healthy 41, with Robin van Persie (20) and Wayne Rooney (12) topping the charts. Five other efforts have gone down as own goals.

Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young will all be looking to break their ducks in the coming weeks.
