Aberdeen Wish Sir Alex Ferguson Well In His Happy Retirement

Aberdeen have released a statement praising Sir Alex Ferguson as the Manchester United boss announced his retirement.

Ferguson led Aberdeen to three Scottish Premier League titles before he was lured to Old Trafford in November 1986.

His greatest triumph with the Dons came in May 1983 though, when Ferguson tasted his first continental success as his charges beat Real Madrid 2-1 in Gothenburg to claim the European Cup Winners' Cup.

An Aberdeen statement read: "Everyone at Aberdeen Football Club wishes Sir Alex a long and happy retirement following this morning's announcement.

"His contribution, both to Manchester United and Aberdeen, will quite simply never be matched, and it is fitting in many ways, that he has confirmed that he is stepping down just three days before the 30th anniversary of that never to be forgotten night in Gothenburg."
