Evans: We Are Ready
Jonny Evans says the players are raring to go ahead of this weekend's Community Shield clash with Wigan at Wembley and are even more excited about the season proper.
The Reds take on the Championship side - and last season's FA Cup winners - at Wembley on Sunday with David Moyes aiming to claim his first piece of silverware as United boss.
Evans has hailed the club's new regime under Moyes and after a run of friendly matches in pre-season, the defender says the squad can't wait to get going with some competitive football.
"Personally, I can't wait for the season to start and you can sense that amongst the whole squad," he told MUTV. "We've got a pre-season behind us now and we're kicking off on Sunday at Wembley. We're all looking forward to it.
"It's a one-off occasion, a one-off match that could go either way and that's what makes it a special game, particularly with it being at Wembley. The pitch is always good there and you hope that brings out the best in both teams.
"The staff have been excellent since they came in," he added, when asked about life under Moyes and his coaching team, which also includes Ryan Giggs as a player/coach. "It's been a really smooth transition.
"Nothing has changed too much, they have just put their own style on how we train. It's been a very smooth change. In terms of Ryan's role, he's always been a bit like a coach anyway when it comes to giving advice which is invaluable to the squad.
"We've actually had quite tough games [during pre-season], and also done a lot of training and work on our fitness.
"Going into the first one in Thailand we were probably a bit jetlagged and it took us a while to get settled. We had two very tough matches in Japan against teams who were really fit and they were excellent games for us in terms of fitness and sharpness.
"That's why you play these games - to find out where you're at fitness-wise and hopefully we can push on now."
