MUTV Celebrates 15 Years
On 10 September 1998, MUTV broadcast for the very first time. Launched as a joint venture between the club, ITV and Sky, it was the first football club channel of its kind in the world, leading the way for many others to follow.
Now celebrating its 15th birthday and wholly owned by Manchester United, MUTV is still the world’s leading football club TV channel, boasting more than 8.5 million subscribers and an audience reach of well over 30 million fans worldwide.
MUTV prides itself on delivering all the United news first, on the back of unrivalled access to the club, the staff and the players. From breaking Dwight Yorke’s arrival in the week the channel launched, to airing the first exclusive interview with latest signing Marouane Fellaini, MUTV has been there to introduce the fans to all the great players who have signed for United.
Since its launch, MUTV has followed the team all over England, Europe and the world as the club has won 18 trophies, including nine Premier League titles, two European Cups, two FA Cups, three League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup and an Intercontinental Cup.
Over the years, MUTV has also provided unique insights into the lives of the players, both past and present, to bring fans closer to United than ever before. Documentary series like When the Floodlights Fade and fly-on-the-wall shows such as Rio’s Tour Diaries have broken the mould of how football clubs connect with their fans.
As MUTV enters its 16th year, the future is bright, with more brand-new programming than ever before, greater access to the squad, live Under-21s and Under-18s matches plus much more.
Here’s to another 15 years. We are United.
