Capital One Cup Fifth Round Draw: United Paired With Potters
Manchester United's reward for beating Norwich City on Tuesday night is an away tie against Stoke City in the fifth round of the Capital One Cup.
The draw was made after Wednesday evening's fixtures in the competition - Manchester City's 2-0 extra-time win at Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur's 8-7 penalties win over Hull City after their match ended 2-2 at White Hart Lane.
United have previously played Stoke five times in the League Cup. The sides were last drawn against each other in 1993/94 when the Potters won the first leg at their former home, the Victoria Ground. The Reds triumphed 2-0 in the return match, with goals by Brian McClair and Lee Sharpe, to go through 3-2 on aggregate. Current Stoke manager Mark Hughes was in the United line-up that night (6 October 1993).
Since then, the Reds have won 10 out of 11 Premier League meetings with Stoke, most recently in Saturday's thrilling 3-2 comeback at Old Trafford.
The cup tie between the sides will be played at the Britannia Stadium in the week beginning Monday 16 December. The full fifth-round draw is as follows:
Leicester City v Manchester City
Stoke City v Manchester United
Sunderland/Southampton v Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United
