Moyes: Giggs Premier League's Best

Manchester United manager David Moyes has hailed Ryan Giggs as the Premier League's "best ever" player.

The Welshman, who turned 40 on Friday , has played 953 times for United since making his debut in March 1991.

Giggs has helped United to 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League wins and the FA Cup and the League Cup four times each in his 22-year career.

"He's undoubtedly at the top because of his longevity and the time that he has played for just one club," said Moyes.

"Every season you can look at Ryan Giggs moments, and to be playing so well at his age is terrific as well - a great example to young players about how you should dedicate yourself throughout your career."

Stoke manager Mark Hughes, a team-mate of Giggs' at United in the early 1990s, echoed Moyes in paying tribute to his fellow former Wales international.

"I would suggest that Ryan is the legend of the Premier League, given the amount of success he has had, the impact he has had and the longevity he has had," Hughes said.

"I'm just really pleased that I have been around and watched him progress from being a skinny little 14-year-old, right through to being a skinny little 40-year-old!"

Hughes singled out Giggs as the outstanding talent in the crop of young players - dubbed the 'Class of 92' and including David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Gary and Phil Neville - who brought sustained success to Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"At the time, almost every senior player at Manchester United knew that there was an exceptional talent coming through the ranks," Hughes said. "We knew there was an exceptional group coming through, but Ryan was the shining light."

Hull City manager Steve Bruce, who captained Manchester United during the early part of Giggs' career, said the midfielder still had the will to succeed at the highest level after nearly 23 years.

"He's still as fit as a flea, he's still got the hunger and desire and he just enjoys playing football so much, " said Bruce.

"He made his debut at 17 and to still be playing now is quite remarkable. We talk about money in the game too often but that's never fazed him. He just wants to be the best player."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also hailed the longevity of Giggs, saying, "Maybe he is like a good Bordeaux (wine). He gets better as he gets older.''
