Welbeck Looks At Bigger Picture

Danny Welbeck insists he would trade any personal glory for team success as the Manchester United forward is clearly hurt by the Reds' current form.

A third consecutive 2-1 defeat, at Sunderland, where Welbeck flourished during a loan spell under ex-Red Steve Bruce, means David Moyes' men have to come from behind in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at Old Trafford on 22 January.

Although the England man has been in fine form, emerging as a contender for the Player of the Month award in December, he accepts his goals mean less if the side is not winning.

The Mancunian has hit the net five times in his last seven outings from a central role to help cover the absence of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, supporting his belief that he can be extremely effective as an out-and-out striker.

"Obviously, I really want to play down the middle," he told ManUtd.com. "And just to get the opportunity to play there means it has been good for me. I'm happy to get on the pitch.

"But the most important thing is I want my team to be doing the best they can. I have been scoring a few goals but I would change all that if we were first in the Premier League."
