Young Ruled Out With Injury
David Moyes says Ashley Young will not face Swansea City in the FA Cup due to a shoulder injury sustained in a challenge by Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris.
The in-form Manchester United winger was caught by Spurs' French goalkeeper during the Reds' 2-1 defeat on New Year's Day. And while a penalty was not awarded by referee Howard Webb, Young has suffered the consequences of the controversial moment and will not feature on Sunday.
"We’ve got a few injuries and one is [from] the challenge the keeper made on Ashley Young," reported Moyes.
"It's a shoulder injury and we’re not sure exactly how long he’s going to be out yet. We’ve got some other injuries as well that we’ll just need to look at and see how they are over the next few days."
When asked specifically about the fitness of Robin van Persie, Moyes expanded: "Robin’s coming on but we’ll let you know when he’s ready."
Speaking at his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex, the United manager also explained how he will utilise his squad for this Sunday’s third-round FA Cup tie and next Tuesday’s Capital One Cup trip to Sunderland.
“We definitely will [rotate players] because of the two games,” the boss said.
“It’s the same for both clubs so there can’t be many complaints but I don't think it's right to be asking footballers to play on Sunday and then Tuesday. They did it over Christmas and I totally understand that and the reasons why.
"But it’s a bit harder to accept at such short notice here."
