Vidic Feeling Confident
Nemanja Vidic believes United can knock Bayern Munich out of the Champions League following Tuesday’s gutsy 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
The captain produced a magnificent performance against the European champions, scoring the opener from Wayne Rooney’s corner before winning ManUtd.com’s Man of the Match award with 58 per cent of votes cast by Reds supporters.
Speaking after the match, Vida offered his view on the game and explained why his team-mates are fully capable of beating Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side in Bavaria.
“It was a tough game,” Vidic told ITV. “We had a good score at 1-0 and were in a good position. We were solid but one mistake was punished and they showed how good a team they are. They had a lot of possession, we knew we’d spend most of the game in our half but we tried to counter attack.
“In the Champions League, we have played quite well. It was only the Olympiacos first leg that was disappointing but in all of the other games, we defended well and played as a team. Our biggest threat is on the counter attack and that is how we played.
“I think the second leg will be the same game. They are going to have a lot of possession because it is their ground and we have to keep our shape, stick together and with the players that we have up front, with so much pace, I think we can hurt them.”
