Manchester United fans have recognised David De Gea’s outstanding form this season by crowning him as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year at the club’s annual awards ceremony.
The Spanish goalkeeper picked up the accolade after gleaning 54 per cent of the combined votes on ManUtd.com’s seven official websites, ahead of Wayne Rooney (26 per cent)and Adnan Januzaj (5 per cent) in second and third place respectively. The remaining 15 per cent of the votes were distributed between the rest of the squad.
After receiving his prize, 23-year-old De Gea said: "I want to thank the fans. From my very first day at the club, I have felt their love and I’m really happy. For them, we will try next season to do our best again."
