Herrera Happy With United Debut

Ander Herrera says his Manchester United debut is an experience he will never forget after a Man of the Match display helped the Reds sail to a 7-0 win over LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup.

The Spaniard was part of a three-man midfield alongside fellow countryman Juan Mata and Darren Fletcher and impressed throughout the 90 minutes in Pasadena. He also had a hand in a couple of the Reds’ second half goals and the man himself says he was over the moon with such a memorable debut.

"It was a dream for me to play in the red shirt – I will keep this shirt with me always. I hope this is the start of a lot of games for United," he told ManUtd.com. "It wasn't only me in this game though, I think the whole team enjoyed the game and did well. It's the first match and we have done good things. It's a good step and we're very happy."

While delighted with the performance and result after some solid training sessions in the last few days in Los Angeles, Herrera insists it's important to build on the victory.

"The manager said to us afterwards that he was pleased with the game and a good performance but he wants us to keep improving. We have to keep working hard," he added. "7-0 is a great score but it’s a friendly game. It’s important for us to start with a win like this and it will help us keep improving."

Asked about the biggest thing he would take from his opening night as a Red, Ander said: "The fans and the love they have for this club. There were over 80,000 fans to support us – it's unbelievable. We thank them a lot."
