Patrice Evra: The Quotes

Famed for his vivid personality and colourful interviews, it seemed only that right we should pay tribute to Patrice Evra's remarkable United career with a selection of his finest soundbites...

On joining United: “Liverpool and Arsenal are great clubs but United is a completely different story. Inter Milan were also trying to get me in the transfer window but there was only one club for me.”

On the role of dressing room DJ: “I fight with Rio because all the time he's saying he's got better songs on his iPod, but mine is the best in the dressing room. I say that because it's the truth. The players ask me because I have different songs. I can put some hip-hop on, some rock music too. I mix the songs for everybody in the dressing room!”

On winning the Champions League: “I never stopped believing we would win this competition, but I can't believe that I am a champion. I am very happy, the atmosphere in the dressing room was great and it was a big present for Sir Alex Ferguson because he deserves it for working so hard for United.”

On finding his spiritual home at Old Trafford: “From the moment I arrived here it felt like it was my destiny, because it was only when I became a United player that I found my true identity. This place suited my character. The people here were on my wavelength and I was able to be me.”

On Paddy Crerand’s mispronunciation of his name: “Why do you keep calling me Patricia?”

On United's 2009 Champions League semi-final win over Arsenal: “It was 11 men against 11 babies. We never doubted ourselves. We have much more experience and that's what made the difference. We were always confident. It should have been that score in the first leg anyway. It is a great United team that won.”

On Ji-Sung Park: “He’s like the David Beckham of Korea. They shake, they cry, they scream when they see him. It’s amazing.”

On the pressures of playing for United: “When you sign for Manchester United you have to accept criticism when you don’t win a game or you don’t win a trophy. When I joined this club it was to win the league, to win the Champions League, every year. Of course there is pressure, but here, winning is normal.”

On 'that' goal Bayern Munich: “Before the game I prayed and asked ‘Can I give something for the Busby Babes’. I didn’t say a goal, but just to make sure we played for them in that game. That’s why when I scored that goal, you can see I was really emotional. I couldn’t believe it.”

On the potential title of his autobiography: “I already have a title in mind: 'From the street to Manchester United.”

On leaving United for Juventus: “My biggest thanks goes to the fans, we have had some fantastic times together, we lifted all those trophies all together and that night in Moscow will live with us all forever. Every single time I stepped out in that shirt I knew I was playing for the badge and for a very special club. My passion for this club will live on and I know you guys will go on to enjoy more success in the coming seasons.”
