Lingard Learning All The Time
Jesse Lingard says Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the States has been a great learning curve for him and everyone in the squad with the players relishing working under Louis van Gaal.
The manager’s introduction of a new system has yielded four wins from four, while the players have all commented on how much they have enjoyed the new training regime under van Gaal.
Lingard came on for the final half an hour of United’s 3-1 victory over Real Madrid on Saturday which booked a spot in the International Champions Cup final against Liverpool on Monday and the attacker is hopeful the team can end the tour on a high.
“Everyone is really enjoying working with the manager and his staff and getting used to the way he works,” Lingard told ManUtd.com. "The formation has been really enjoyable to play in – some players are playing in different roles which means everyone is learning even more. We’re delighted to be through to the final - winning things is what Manchester United is about and hopefully we can win the trophy.”
United’s win over Madrid on Saturday was played in front of over 109,000 fans at Michigan Stadium – a record crowd for a football match in the United States. And Lingard says it was a real thrill to be involved in such an occasion.
“It was an amazing experience. To play and win in front of so many people was fantastic,” he beamed. “We felt it was a good performance and we felt very settled and organised all the way through the game even when we made it substitutions. There was a really good structure to our game and we took our chances.
“Everyone is buzzing for the final against Liverpool. They’ve had some changes to their team and we’ve got a new manager and some new players so we’ll see how it ends up. Hopefully we can get the result.”
