Phil Jones Looks Ahead To Swansea Clash

Phil Jones immediately set his sights on Saturday’s Barclays Premier League opener against Swansea City after Manchester United made it six wins from six in pre-season by defeating Valencia at Old Trafford.

Marouane Fellaini's injury-time tap-in gave the Reds a 2-1 victory over Los Che. The win follows a successful tour of the USA that culminated in the International Champions Cup.

Jones was named Man of the Match for his industrious display and was happy with the win, but says everyone at United is now relishing the start of the real action.

Speaking to MUTV as he left the field, the defender said: "Tonight caps a good pre-season and we’re looking forward to the start of the season now.

"It was the manager’s first game and for a few of the young lads as well, and I thought they were terrific – that can only stand us in good stead.

"We’ve learned a new system and we’re enjoying it. We’ve been watching a lot of videos of our training sessions and games and we’re improving all the time."

United won 4-1 away at Swansea on the opening day of last season but were later knocked out of the FA Cup by the Swans at Old Trafford, before claiming revenge with a 2-0 home win in the league.

Jones added: "It’s a massive game and all the lads are looking forward to it – this is why we work hard in pre-season.

"It’ll be another tough encounter against Swansea but we want to start with a bang and hopefully get three points, so we’ll evaluate today’s game and prepare right for Saturday."
