Cleverley Set To Join Aston Villa On Season-long Loan

England midfielder Tom Cleverley will join Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Manchester United after the Premier League sanctioned the move.

Villa made a last-minute application on deadline day to take him to Villa Park on loan after confusion saw Cleverley initially shun the club in the hope of a permanent move to Everton.

It is understood Villa had a permanent deal set up for Cleverley to sign after he spent most of September 1 at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground, but a late move from Everton saw Cleverley travel to Merseyside, only for that deal to fall through.

Manchester United's representatives were thought to have been too busy securing Radamel Falcao's loan move to Old Trafford from Monaco and Danny Welbeck's £16million transfer to Arsenal, as well as additional outgoings, to deal with Cleverley appropriately.

However, Villa were always confident of landing Cleverley after outlining to the Premier League that they had reached an agreement long before the last moments of the deadline.

And Cleverley will now be able to complete his move to the Midlands - a year-long loan that includes a six-month break clause in January.

Cleverley is one of a number of players along with Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa, who returned for former club Borussia Dortmund on the final day, told by new manager Louis van Gaal they would not be in contention for first team football this season.
