Giggs Honoured
Ryan Giggs was reunited with a host of his former Manchester United team-mates at a tribute dinner in his honour in London on Tuesday night.
The Reds' assistant manager was the recipient of the Legend of Football Award at the HMV Football Extravaganza, which raises money for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
Giggs was joined by a host of club greats, including Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Paul Ince and Bryan Robson, at the event, which generated an incredible £402,000 for charity.
Before receiving his award, Ryan was treated to a surprise performance from Welsh band Stereophonics, who had flown in specially from America to pay tribute to their fellow countryman.
Past winners of the Legend of Football accolade include Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona and Pele, and Ryan told ManUtd.com he was delighted to stand alongside those names.
“It’s a very special award. I came to the dinner when Eric received his and it was only then that I realised how big an award it is and it's for such a great cause,” Ryan told us.
“Nordoff Robbins is a great charity. I remember at Eric’s dinner that we heard from parents of some of the children who benefit from the charity and they discussed the help they get from music and how much progress they make by using it.
“It’s always great on these nights to get together with ex-team-mates and players I’ve played against, and it’s a good night to meet up with old friends who perhaps you don’t get chance to see as much as you’d like to. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.”
