De Gea Confident Of Bouncing Back
David De Gea insists his Manchester United team-mates will bounce back from the derby defeat in Saturday's Old Trafford encounter with Crystal Palace.
The Reds played with 10 men for most of the game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday after Chris Smalling was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 39th minute.
Despite producing a gutsy performance that displayed United’s burgeoning team spirit, Louis van Gaal’s men were eventually beaten by Sergio Aguero’s tidy second-half finish.
“It was a shame we didn't get anything from the match,” De Gea told PA Sport after the final whistle. “But we had 10 men for most of the match. We didn't give up after the red card, we kept going.
“We don't like to lose - especially in derbies - but we will keep doing what we are doing and try to win the matches coming up. We are at home [against Palace on Saturday], so we will train hard all this week and we are going to make sure we get all three points.”
A minor positive for United was yet another impressive display from De Gea, who produced a handful of excellent saves to deny Aguero, Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic. While he is pleased with his form, his main concern is the team’s performance.
“My form is very good,” he explained. “I am playing the best football of my career and I want it to continue, but the most important thing is that we all play well as a team.”
