Blind Rues Defeat On Comeback

Daley Blind was left frustrated on his Manchester United comeback as Southampton snatched victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Dusan Tadic grabbed the only goal of the game on 69 minutes, with the Reds unable to convert possession and pressure into goals. In a game of few clear-cut chances, Saints' Nathaniel Clyne rolled a shot just wide in the opening seconds with Tadic’s winner being one of the only other opportunities for the visitors. Juan Mata went close to levelling on several occasions after Southampton took the lead, but the Reds were left to rue what might have been.

“It’s very disappointing,” admitted Blind, who returned from injury after being sidelined since November. “The first feeling was that we gave only one chance away in the first half, maybe the chance in the first minute, then after that we played really well defensively. But when we get the ball we have to be more patient, and wait for the chances to come. Sometimes we were in a bit of a hurry.

“After they went 1-0 up, we made some good chances and had one gone in we could have scored another one and maybe could have won. But, we missed them and then it was always going to be difficult. They were all in defence, and like I said they just had the one chance, so it’s a pity.”

The result saw Saints swap places with United by going third in the Barclays Premier League, but Blind is keen to take the first opportunity to hit back at QPR on Saturday. “We have to bounce back, we have to stand up as a team with each other and do the best we can in training, every day, and have a good week because we need a win next weekend," he declared.
