Shaw Impressed By Young

Luke Shaw is full of admiration for the way Ashley Young has performed on the left side of the Manchester United defence in the last month or so.

Young has played every minute of every game since his fellow England international Shaw limped off in the Reds' away win at Arsenal on 22 November. The winger turned wing-back has impressed many observers with both his creativity in attack and his discipline at the back, and has been nominated for ManUtd.com's December Player of the Month award.

Shaw made his return to action as a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw at Tottenham on Sunday, and while he is keen to claim a regular run in the side, Luke recognises he faces stiff competition from the in-form Ashley. He also acknowledges the similar role played on the other side of the field by Antonio Valencia who has caught the eye with a string of strong displays.

"They [Valencia and Young] have been unbelievable," Shaw told MUTV. "I think their performances have really helped the team, especially Ashley who has been superb in every game I've watched.

"He's been doing great work at both ends of the pitch and putting teams on the back foot as an attacking player. It's something I've been looking at."

Shaw has so far seen his United career punctuated by a couple of frustrating injuries, but insists he feels fit and ready to go again. "I'm feeling really good," declared the 19-year-old. "It's always a big setback when you get an injury having already come back from another one.

"It's been frustrating - my United career hasn't really got going yet. I think I had a run of seven games before picking up an injury against Arsenal; that knocked me down, but I'm now fit and raring to go. Hopefully I can stay fit and won't get any more injuries. I'm raring to get back into the team now."
