Sir Bobby Opens Bayern's Munich Exhibit

On the day that marked the 57th anniversary of the Munich tragedy, Sir Bobby Charlton opened a new commemorative exhibit in Bayern Munich's museum.

The Manchester United ambassador was joined at the special Allianz Arena event by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern's chairman, as the two football legends officially unveiled a display which chronicles the events of 6 February 1958.

Sir Bobby, himself a survivor of the crash of course, was particularly moved by the efforts of the German club, who also help to maintain another memorial close to the crash site, now known as 'Manchester Platz'.

"I'm very happy and ever so proud of the association between Bayern Munich and Manchester United," Charlton said. "Our club had an awful, awful experience but we have been helped enormously by Bayern Munich and the people of Germany.

"I am so proud whenever I come back here," he continued. "I have so many friends at Bayern Munich and I am really, really proud of the relationship we have."
