We Will Challenge For Title
Manchester United’s Stamford Bridge display showed Sammy McIlroy, MUTV’s expert ex-Red on Big Match Debrief, that the Reds will match Chelsea next term…
1. Louis van Gaal's plan is coming together "When do you see a team go to Stamford Bridge and have 70 per cent possession? We came away with nothing and that's why the manager is disappointed. But it bodes well for the future. He's getting his squad and his system together and it's looking good for next season."
2. Shaw and McNair excelled "For so many key players to miss the game was a massive blow. Yet some players came in and did the job against a top team. Shaw showed signs of what he did at Southampton – he looked sharp, fit and made really good raids down the left. Paddy McNair looked like he'd played centre-half all season. For a young boy to come into such a massive game, he did a great job."
3. United have turned a corner "In the last few months we've come a long way. With players fit, playing in the system as the manager wants it, we've turned a corner. We've beaten some good sides and been on great runs. Unfortunately we couldn't beat Chelsea but we gave a great show of ourselves."
4. We need to score more "When we dominate games, we have to make sure we score the goals our play warrants. That’s the one disappointment from the Chelsea game."
5. We'll challenge Chelsea for their title "The performance, with players missing, shows what a decent squad we've got. This squad will get better for the experience of this season and Louis van Gaal will improve it in the summer, so I think we'll be challenging Chelsea to get that title back."
