Injury Update Ahead Of United Vs Arsenal

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney are both unavailable for selection ahead of Manchester United’s Barclays Premier League match against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Shaw took a blow to the face during the first half of last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace and was replaced by Jonny Evans, before Rooney was withdrawn for Radamel Falcao at half-time after sustaining a painful dead leg at Selhurst Park.

Robin van Persie has been declared fit to face his former club after the Dutchman missed the trip to South London due to a virus. Angel Di Maria is also available for action after recovering from injury, as is his Argentinian compatriot Marcos Rojo.

During his weekly interview with MUTV, van Gaal was asked firstly about Shaw and Rooney: "The situation is not positive for us, they cannot play, neither of them.

"Yes, it is a short-term thing, we have only one match to play [after Arsenal], so I think it will be difficult for them to play again this season."

Pressed further on United's other injured players, the boss continued: "Angel Di Maria and Robin van Persie are able to play. Rojo has trained this week with us and he could play."
