Pereira Wins U21s Player Of The Year Award
Manchester United fans have voted Andreas Pereira the Under-21s Player of the Year for the 2014/15 season, capping an unforgettable campaign for the highly-rated Brazilian.
Pereira, 19, made his first-team debut under Louis van Gaal, signed a new long-term contract at club and most recently, helped the Reds win the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title. Andreas earned more online votes than team-mates Donald Love and Liam Grimshaw, who were also nominated for the award by their coach Warren Joyce.
Adnan Januzaj won the same award at the end of the 2012/13 season and the Belgium international is confident his fledgling team-mate can continue to develop as a player, with a view to cementing himself in the senior squad. βIt is always good to win your own prize and your own trophy,β Adnan exclusively told ManUtd.com. βI think he just has to work hard and when the chance comes to him then he should take it. Andreas is a very good player, he has a lot of good qualities and I think he can be a great player for United.β
Pereira is currently away with Brazil's Under-20 squad and was therefore unable to collect the Denzil Haroun trophy at the Player of the Year Awards ceremony. However, the midfielder pre-recorded a video message in which he said: "I want to thank first of all the fans who voted for me. I want to thank all the coaches and the staff who helped me and I want to thank Warren [Joyce] and all the reserve team because they were very important for me to win this trophy. I congratulate them as well on winning the Under-21s league. I'm very honoured to win this trophy and hopefully I can do well next season. Thank you."
