Blind: Depay Is A Game-changer
Daley Blind has provided a ringing endorsement of Memphis Depay, his fellow Netherlands international who will soon become a Manchester United team-mate at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old Depay is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Europe after scoring 43 goals in 106 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, and he will complete his transfer from the Philips Stadion when the summer window opens after recently passing a medical at the Aon Training Complex.
Blind first encountered Depay when playing against him in the Eredivisie with former club Ajax but got to know him on a personal level when Louis van Gaal gave the forward his full international debut in October 2013. Since then, the pair have both been regulars in the Dutch national team.
Speaking exclusively to ManUtd.com ahead of the Netherlands’ post-season friendly against USA on Friday – which will be shown live on MUTV – Blind heaped praise on his young team-mate and provided an invaluable insight into the player’s character, personality and much-discussed work ethic.
“He is a player who can change games,” Daley explained. “He has a great free-kick, a great dribble, a great shot. He’s young, talented and always wants to work hard. He always wants to better himself on the training pitch, that’s how I know him. I think he is quiet, but if he has something to say he will, if you know what I mean! Yes, he is very confident, but he is a good guy.”
