Blind Impressed By Impact Of New Signings
Daley Blind was delighted to see Manchester United’s new signings make a positive impression in the team’s opening tour match in Seattle on Friday evening.
Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian all made their Reds’ bows at CenturyLink Field with Schneiderlin heading home the winning goal after just five minutes.
Blind has been impressed with how all the new signings have settled in and the Dutchman says he is thoroughly enjoying his first tour with the Reds.
“It’s nice to play a game again. I think we played like a team, we were really compact in both halves. I’m happy that I have 45 minutes in the legs, it was good,” Blind told ManUtd.com.
“It’s my first experience of the tour and you see how big United is everywhere. You see so many United shirts. You know how big the club is but you only realise properly the moment when you see it. It’s a great experience.
“It always helps to get your first goal,” he added. “You saw from how Morgan played, not only him but also the other guys too, that they feel comfortable in the team. Everyone has tried to help them – we all help each other and I think the new players can be very happy. I hope they enjoyed it.”
Blind played alongside Phil Jones in central defence, a position he took up at times when needed last season, as well as central midfield and left-back. The versatile Dutch international is happy to play wherever he is needed and says he enjoyed his experience alongside Jones.
“We talked a lot with each other which was necessary because they were moving all over the pitch. I think we played smart together and I just tried to do my best,” he added.
“It was a new position and a new experience for a new season but I have to adapt to that and I want to show myself in there. I think I can be satisfied with my performance, perhaps there was only one tackle that was a little bit difficult for the referee. Overall I think I can be happy.
“It was a good first game for us. They had a good team but we prepared ourselves really well to get this performance. As I said we played like a team, very compact and it was difficult for them to find space. Our defence stayed compact with the midfield and as a team I think we did well.”
