Johnstone: I Am Learning A Lot From Hoek

Sam Johnstone feels he is learning a great deal from working with goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek at Manchester United.

The England Under-21 international spent the end of last season on loan at Preston North End, helping his hometown club gain promotion to the Championship, but is back in the fold at Old Trafford and has played more minutes than anybody else on Tour 2015, presented by Aon.

The experience is helping Johnstone develop his game as he picks up essential advice from Hoek, who has worked with some of the best keepers in the business.

"It was good to play behind the same back four in the two games," he told ManUtd.com. "We’d been working on things in training and they really helped me.

"Frans [Hoek] also spoke to me about what he wanted me to do and gave me some pointers. We go through a lot of videos of the opposition and look at what we want to do as a team and all of that can only help me improve.

"I’ve learnt a lot in these two matches. Coming into these kinds of games after my loan has really helped me. I played all last season, played at Wembley and in front of good crowds – all that really helps you. Of course it’s a different expectation at United – you need to be on top of your game all the time but I really think my loan last season has been a benefit to come into these games.

"I’m still learning of course because the Man United way is completely different to any other club. We work on things in training every day - I’m willing to learn and Frans is really helping me."
