Guardiola Backs Schweinsteiger To Succeed At Man. United

Pep Guardiola has backed Bastian Schweinsteiger to be a huge success at Manchester United if he puts his injury problems behind him.

The German midfielder moved to Old Trafford for £14.4 million after 13 years with Bayern.

And Bayern boss Guardiola believes if the 31-year-old stays fit, he will light up the Premier League.

The Spaniard said: “I am complete convinced that he will do very very well at Manchester United.

“He is a top player, unfortunately last two years he had problems with his injuries.

“He was never in good physical condition. When he is in good condition he is a big star and is a really good player.

“I hope that is going to happen [at United].”

The World Cup winner, who has been troubled by ankle and knee problems, made only 15 appearances last season.

Schweinsteiger could make his Old Trafford debut in the season opener against Tottenham on Saturday.

Guardiola has replaced the veteran midfielder by signing Arturo Vidal from Juventus for around £15 million.
