Herrera: Cup Run Would Benefit Everyone

Forget fixture congestion... Ander Herrera can see only positives should Manchester United embark on a successful Capital One Cup run and ultimately reach the final in February next year.

Louis van Gaal's first taste of the competition was one to forget as the Reds lost to Milton Keynes Dons in the second round last year but, following a bye into round three and a home draw with Championship promotion-chasers Ipswich Town, hopes are high for an extended stay in the cup this time around.

Herrera, who was an unused substitute at Southampton on Sunday but has scored against Club Brugge and Liverpool recently, feels United need to show their true colours in front of the Old Trafford faithful.

"I told you at the beginning of the season, we have to fight for everything," he declared to MUTV. "We have to try to get trophies this season.

"The Capital One Cup is a competition we can win and, if we are playing two or three times every week, it's very good for everyone. Everyone is involved, everyone has chances to play and everyone is fit. I can only see good things from this kind of competition."

Herrera believes Ipswich will be awkward opponents as they continue to make strides under manager Mick McCarthy.

"Teams can always play in this kind of game like it is the last of their lives," he added. "It is what they have to do and we have to know this. Last season was really disappointing in the Capital One Cup, when we lost against Milton Keynes Dons 4-0.

"Now we have a new chance to win a competition and we are Manchester United, we must fight for all the titles and all the trophies. I think the organisation in England is fantastic for these kind of competitions. They are really, really enjoyable and the atmosphere is always very good."
