Man. United 3 Liverpool 1: Van Gaal's Reaction

Louis van Gaal shared the following views on Manchester United's 3-1 win against Liverpool at Old Trafford after Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and new signing Anthony Martial all found the net.

A DESERVED VICTORY

"Each game against Liverpool is more easy than against Swansea City - they are a ghost club for me apparently because we win again against Liverpool and I think it was more than deserved. We controlled the match until the first goal, and after that we brought Liverpool again into a match. But we have scored wonderful goals and then the entrance of our player, Anthony Martial, only 19 years old, and he scored with his second or third touch and the way he did it was fantastic."

FIRST-HALF DISPLAY

"I think we played better in the first half, we had far more control but we didn't create so much. I think there were two chances and a lot of possibilities in the third and fourth phase but the last pass was not so good. That's why I changed Memphis [Depay], to improve that last pass and also [Juan] Mata."

"Memphis knows by himself that his final pass wasn’t good enough. Also Mata, his last pass wasn’t as good as usual. Then you have players on the bench and you can improve the play of your team so that’s why I changed. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t play against PSV Eindhoven but today he wasn’t what I expected."

DALEY BLIND'S OPENING GOAL

"The second half has been characterised because of the goal, which was a consequence of our meetings and our tactical sessions on set-plays. That has paid off now and I am very happy with this goal because that is what we have practised in many training sessions. The first goal is, of course, the goal which decides the match because, after that, they have to come at us and we get get more space."

ANDER HERRERA'S PENALTY

"We could score the second goal because of that space. It was very good running in behind from Ander Herrera and a fantastic pass from Michael Carrick so I was very proud. Also, the way Ander scored the penalty was fantastic."

ANTHONY MARTIAL'S DEBUT GOAL

"The goal of Anthony was not a bad goal, I think! It was a good match for him because Liverpool had to come [at us] so he had a lot of space. It was more easy to bring him on but he did alright. He scored a marvellous goal and I have seen also that, physically, he can play in the Premier League. And he can dribble as you have seen.

"I am very happy for him. But we have to say, he’s 19 years old and he’s out of France and it is very difficult for a 19-year-old player to adapt to the culture of England, the Premier League and the high rhythm of the game here but he has a great talent and he can improve. He shall get better and better."
