Morgan: I Don't Play For Praise

Morgan Schneiderlin dissects the role of a holding midfielder at Manchester United in the December issue of Inside United magazine, explaining why he does not play for praise.

The France international has enjoyed a promising start to his Reds career since joining from Southampton in the summer, registering 13 appearances in all competitions, with manager Louis van Gaal often rotating between him, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger in central midfield.

While discussing the many intricacies and responsibilities involved in the holding role, Schneiderlin happily admits that his performances in the engine room can often go unnoticed when praise is being dished around in the post-match analysis – and that is exactly how he wants it be.

Asked if he enjoys staying out of the limelight, Morgan provides this honest and refreshing answer: "Yeah, I do, because I’m a team player. I don’t play for chasing praise from anyone. Of course, you have to play as well as you can but I don’t play to have a good rating in the newspaper or anything like that. I just play to win games and give my team the best possibilities."

Quizzed further on the subject of holding midfield players making sacrifices for the good of the team, Schneiderlin continues by saying: "I think a lot of players are working very, very hard and a lot of players are getting praise around us because they score or they give assists in their position.

"But a lot of players are working hard, making some crucial challenges and doing some good things. Yet sometimes, of course, we are bit out of the spotlight, if I can say that. But for me I don’t care about being in the spotlight. I just like to win!"

As well as Schneiderlin, the new issue of Inside United includes an exclusive interview with club legend and cover star David Beckham ahead of this Saturday's UNICEF charity match at Old Trafford. Ander Herrera also discusses the art of goalscoring, while Schweinsteiger talks exclusively about his Champions League career after becoming the first German to play in 13 different European Cup campaigns.

The December issue of Inside United is on sale from Wednesday and available to buy at Old Trafford, in shops and online via ManUtd.com/magazine.
