United In Control Of Group B

Manchester United will secure a place in the UEFA Champions League's last 16 if PSV Eindhoven are defeated in the next European match at Old Trafford.

The Reds moved into that commanding position in Group B by beating CSKA Moscow 1-0 on Tuesday night while PSV were winning 2-0 at home to Wolfsburg - the exact reverse of those two clubs' previous meeting a fortnight ago.

Jurgen Locadia and Luuk De Jong scored for the hosts in Eindhoven and Phillip Cocu's men will now come to Manchester on Wednesday 25 November in second place, one point behind United.

"It was important that we won the game tonight, for a number of reasons," said Michael Carrick after the Reds' victory. "The main reason was to put us in a good position in the group.”
