Young Has Great Memories Of Watford

Manchester United winger Ashley Young will always be grateful for his time at former club Watford, insisting they helped him become the player he is today.

The 30-year-old graduated from the Hornets' academy and eventually helped them achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2006. Young has fond memories of life at Vicarage Road, where he played for over 10 years, and is excited to see some familiar faces when he returns for Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off.

"I’m really looking forward to going back. It’s the club where I started and learnt my trade and, hopefully, it’ll be a nice reception... a better one than I get at Aston Villa anyway!" he joked, in an interview with ManUtd.com. "There will be quite a lot of my family going to the game, so it’ll be nice to go back.

"I started at Watford when I was 10 and left at 21, so I was there for a long time. It set me up and helped me get to where I am today and I thank everyone who was there at the time who I worked with."

Watford currently sit 11th in the table after making a steady start to 2015/16 on their return to the Premier League, though they only have two wins to their name on their own patch so far.

However, Young expects a battling display from the Hornets on Saturday and the versatile midfielder has been impressed by the way they try to play the game.

"It won’t be an easy match," he explains. "A lot of people wrote them off at the start of the season but they’re a team that works hard and gets players on the ball, and they score goals.

"They’ve been in good form recently but hopefully we can go there and get the three points."
