De Gea's Message To The Fans

In the latest edition of Inside United magazine, David De Gea thanks Manchester United fans for welcoming him back to action following a summer of uncertainty for the Spanish no.1.

De Gea did not feature in the first six matches of the season due to intense speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid, but eventually made his first appearance in the Barclays Premier League match against Liverpool after a proposed move to the Bernabeu did not materialise on transfer deadline day.

Impressively, the club’s reigning Player of the Year remained silent and dignified throughout the whole saga. He was then afforded a rapturous ovation from Reds supporters when he returned to Louis van Gaal’s starting XI at Old Trafford, helping to secure a pleasing 3-1 win over the Merseysiders.

During an exclusive and in-depth interview with Inside United, which is available to buy online and in stores, De Gea talks about his return to the team and the fans' reception. "It was just incredible, the welcome that I received from all the Manchester United fans," David says.

"It was a special game, a derby against Liverpool, so to have won at home, in that fantastic atmosphere, it was unforgettable! It was amazing. It’s difficult to be able to describe how I felt at that moment, even if I try to. I just want to thank all the fans for the support they’ve always given me since the first day I arrived here. It was just incredible."

Asked if it was good to be playing again following a summer of speculation, De Gea continues: "Yeah, it was. That was the main thing for me, after the whole summer, getting back to playing again. And coming back to Old Trafford against Liverpool was just perfect!"

Anthony Martial scored the final goal in that match against Liverpool and the France international has impressed ever since, most recently scoring the opener in Tuesday’s Champions League tie in Wolfsburg. De Gea admits he’s excited by the 20-year-old and predicts a bright future ahead.

"I think he really surprised everyone," David says. "He’s a great player, still very young and with a lot of time to learn and improve, but he’s settled into the team and to Premier League football quickly. He’s a top player. He’s a laid-back lad, very quiet, just a really good kid. We’re all made up with him and he brings a lot to the team. As I say, I rate him highly."
