Louis van Gaal To Face Media Amid Speculation On Man. United Future
Louis van Gaal will hold his pre-match news conference as normal on Wednesday afternoon despite growing speculation over his future as Manchester United manager.
Van Gaal has overseen a run of six games without a win and Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Norwich City at Old Trafford heaped further pressure on him.
According to widespread newspaper reports, United are considering replacing Van Gaal with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed from his role at Stamford Bridge only last week.
However, Van Gaal will address the media on Wednesday ahead of United's clash with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Boxing Day.
United dropped out of the Premier League's top four following the loss to Norwich - their third successive defeat in all competitions - and were eliminated from the Champions League earlier this month after slipping to a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in Germany.
They have not tasted victory since beating Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on November 21.
Following his departure from Chelsea, Mourinho confirmed he had no desire to take a break from football and insisted he was keen to make a return to the game as soon as possible.
Mourinho's name was chanted by a section of the United support during the defeat to Norwich, but Van Gaal insisted after the match he had the full backing of vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the club's board.
"Ed was very fast out of the dressing room but I feel that support, yes," Van Gaal said.
"The most important support is from the players because the players have to do it on the pitch and the chemistry between the players and the manager and his staff is very important."
